Yoga at School

Yoga for teenagers

Behind their cool image, teenagers are under a lot of stress also. Yoga practice, in addition to providing a stimulating physical exercise, it allows them to channel their energy in a positive way and to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Yoga for Athlete Students

We also offer yoga classes for athletes in different disciplines: soccer, football and hockey. Yoga is an excellent addition to other sports since it teaches athletes to breath properly, to concentrate. It also helps stretching the muscles used during the sport they are practicing and strengthening the opposite muscles.

 A Success Story!

Liberty High School is one of the schools that decided to include yoga in their school program activities offered to students.

Here’s a testimonial of one of the students:

When I joined Yoga, I did it because I was told that I would feel better afterwards. It was also a way for me to complete the 50 hours of physical activity outside of school for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award: I wasn’t really expecting to enjoy it or for it to be physically exerting on any level.  So you can imagine the look on my face as I left the first course feeling like a puddle of goo—a very relaxed and slightly sweaty puddle of goo. The feeling stayed with me all day and It wouldn’t be a stretch for me to add that I had never felt quite as long as I did then—every muscle in my body felt so relaxed and tension-free that I’m pretty sure my limbs were longer than before the class.

I didn’t fully appreciate the new-found release of tension until I slept through my alarm and missed a class. For the week that followed, I was incredibly stiff and had trouble sleeping at night, the stress of the last week before the end of term accumulating. I would find myself constantly stretching and massaging my shoulder hoping to relieve some of the tightness that had settled there. Another thing that I noticed was that I was a lot more irritable and found myself unreasonably short with my friends. Needless to say, the following class was like therapy—I felt as if I could move and maybe, just maybe there wasn’t as much homework or tests as I thought there was. After that class, I swore to myself never to miss another class and to help myself fulfill this goal, I now have two alarms to wake me up. Sarah
